Either way, this show is always a gratitude check.

intervention
I'm sitting on the couch with my laptop and watching Intervention. I am absolutely amazed that the subjects don't realize they are going to be on this show. It has been on the air for several years; you'd think people would catch on. They believe they are being filmed for a piece on addiction. How can they not know there is going to be an intervention? Perhaps they are so consumed by their addiction that they are unaware of anything outside of the next high.

Have not seen the show, but I will.
Once a participant in an intervention, I remember, a quick 'training period' prior to doing it. And...advise anyone newly attempting to be on the intervention team, to do the same.
Always a pleasure to be here Kristin, you know that! I'm usually learning, or re-learning something I need to know--grin!
Thanks
PEACE!
Steve
One thing I always marvel about on this show is;
No matter WHAT the addiction (booze, crack, meth, coke, heroin),
No matter WHO the addict (man, woman, old, young, fat skinny, black, white, rich, poor),
They all say they might be willing to go to treatment BUT first they have to do a few things... can they go next tuesday (or whatever)?
This SLAYS me!!!
Like do they have a big appointment or contract pending or large negotiation meeting? PLEASE!
Their whole days are filled with addiction! But they can't go get help until next week!
This show helps me see the addictive patterns in the addict, but even MORE I see the enabling family thinking they are helping and it is a great (but sad) reminder to me.
I think quite a few of them do know, they are just ready and so they go along with it. but yes, there are a few that are so delusional they have no idea and I wonder how they can not know.
I've never watched it, but seen bits on the internet. I've always been curious if people find it helpful?
I'm an Intervention junkie and am always surprised they don't realize...
I can't find your email, can you contact me at soberjulie at gmail dot com? Want to speak to you about guest posting
I have a feeling that some do know. I get the sense that they know and they are greatful for the help because they don't know how to do it themselves. I agree, how can they NOT know? I've never been in that place so I certainly can't speak from experience. I could be way off and it's just my wishful thinking in trying to see the good in something horrible. MY FIL just sent his step-son off to Thailand for detox. I'm praying it works for him because nothing else has. Before he left, he went on a binge but he was excited to go and hoped to get himself clean. We'll see.
I think you are right about being stuck in addiction and not knowing. I have not watched the show but all the reality shows kind of irk me.
Even National Geo channel is doing stuff on drugs and crime most prime-time hours now. Whatever happened to whales and Arctic foxes? I hope you're well, honey. I've not been spending time at the computer lately, trying to rest my neck. Laying off seems to help. But I miss my blog friends and glad to check in with you.
Ha! I was watching intervention when it aired as well. What a particularly horrific episode...very instructive, and gratitude-making.
I was pretty shaken by that particular episode. Same age, same affliction. I am so grateful to be sober.
Always such a sad show to me... and I agree also a valuable gratitude check!
i haven't watched in awhile, but it has served to be a good reminder fo rme when I have watched it.
Hey, thanks for the kind and thoughtful comment on my blog this morning. I accidentally deleted in from my iPhone, the links are so tiny, I hit deelte rather than publish.
I regularly watch the show, too. It makes me so grateful for my sobriety. Thank you, God for another day clean and sober!
